Participation Will Be Noticed

It's been a very long time since I wrote anything here, and this is a fault I mean to correct. There have been a lot of events that I would like to share, and some thoughts that have been percolating. All of those will have to wait. This post is a recounting of a dream I just woke from, and I really need to get it recorded before it slips away.

I have really vivid dreams. Most of the time I become aware that I am dreaming, although I have not been able to take any significant control. I might have more to say about my dreams in general at another time. For now, this is the dream I woke from:

In the dream, the Company I worked for wanted to have a Virtual Company Picnic, to replace the in-person picnic that can no longer be had, due to health restrictions. (In the Real World, I have not been working since before the pandemic, because of unrelated, serious health issues. More on that later.)

Every employee was sent a Company Picnic Kit, which they needed to set up and use, at the appropriate time. It consisted of a camera, tripod, wireless router, cables, etc. There was also a bodycam, a box of decorations, a small grill, and a package of Picnic food to be prepared. Food for One.

Of course, the company picnic isn't Mandatory, but Participation Will Be Noticed. Like the 'flair' at the restaurant in "Office Space". Of course, detailed instructions for setting up, cooking, doing games, eating, cleaning up was to be live streamed, at the appointed time on Saturday afternoon. Enthusiasm for these events Will Be Noticed.

Notice, nowhere in this was any sort of feedback, or communication with fellow employees. The bosses would be watching everyone else, because how else would Participation Be Noticed. Remember how there was only Food for One? Yeah, spouses and children were expressly not invited to Participate.

So, that's the dream, or at least the structure. I promise more from the Real World coming soon.
